The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Dawah which oversees the running of Mosques issued directives to Mosques on Sunday to ban the use of External Speakers during Congregational Prayers.
The Ministry from its official Twitter Handle issued a statement explaining the background of its decision.
The Ministry cited fatwas of Sheikh Muhammad bin Saleh Al-Uthaymeen – may Allah have mercy on him and Sheikh Saleh bin Fawzan Al-Fawzan – may Allah protect him – a member of the Council of Senior Scholars and member of the permanent Fatwa Committee, and of multiple other scholars which were issued over 20 years ago.
The Ministry also quoted a Hadith of the Prophet (Peace and Blessing of Allah be Upon Him): ‘If all of you obey His Lord, he should not offend one another, and should not exalt some of you over one another in the recitation’
The Ministry also said ‘And because communicating the imam’s voice in prayer is specific to those inside the mosque, and there is no legitimate need to communicate it to those in the home, in addition to the fact that reading the Qur’an in external amplifiers is a disrespect for the Great Qur’an when it is read and not heard’
