Young Haramain Volunteer Murdered in Britain

The Haramain community is in mourning following the tragic death of Muhammad Al-Qassem, a young Saudi man known for his years of selfless service to pilgrims in Masjid Al Haram, Makkah. Al-Qassem was fatally stabbed last week in Cambridge, United Kingdom, where he had been living as a student.

According to Arab News, British authorities were called to an apartment building on July 31 and found the 20-year-old with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Two suspects have been arrested, with one facing charges of murder and assault with a bladed article. A full investigation is underway.

The Saudi Embassy in the UK confirmed its ongoing coordination with British authorities and is facilitating the repatriation of Al-Qassem’s body to the Kingdom.

A Life of Quiet Devotion

To those who visited or served in the Haramain, Muhammad Al-Qassem was more than a volunteer—he was a shining example of quiet dedication and heartfelt service. For years, he could be found during the Hajj and Umrah seasons assisting elderly pilgrims, guiding lost visitors, and helping ensure a smooth and spiritual experience for all.

His Brother describes him as gentle and kind, someone who never turned down a request for help.

“He was always the first to answer, always ready to serve,” a family member shared. “No matter who it was or what they needed, he never hesitated. He never raised his voice, never uttered a harsh word. He simply smiled and helped.”

Social media has been flooded with tributes from those who knew him—both in the Kingdom and abroad. Many remember his bright smile, soft-spoken nature, and love for the Haramain. Several posts feature photos of him wearing the volunteer uniform in the Grand Mosque, quietly serving in the background with humility and pride.

The death of Muhammad Al-Qassem has resonated deeply within the Haramain community. For many, he represents the thousands of young men and women who devote themselves to serving the guests of Allah, often with little recognition but great reward.

His funeral is expected to take place in Makkah following the return of his body to Saudi Arabia.

Inside the Haramain joins the Ummah in offering its sincerest condolences to Muhammad’s family and friends. We ask Allah Almighty to envelop him in His infinite mercy, to accept his years of service, and to grant him the highest ranks of Paradise.

إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون.
