Bangladesh makes COVID-19 Vaccine mandatory for Hujjaj

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced that all people aspiring to perform Hajj this year would need to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

This comes days after Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Health said that COVID-19 Vaccination would be a ‘mandatory condition’ to participate in this year’s Hajj

Bangladesh based news outlet, United News Bangladesh has reported that over 60,000 people are expected to participate in this year’s Hajj, with over 4000 between the ages of 18 and 40, and over 55,000 people over the age of 40.

The first dose of vaccination would be done by the end of March and the second dose by the end of May.

Saudi Arabia canceled the participation of International Hujjaj last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and only 1000 local pilgrims from different nationalities participated in the Hajj rites.

Bangladesh usually sends more than 120,000 Hujjaj each year however this year’s number has been widely reported to be around 60,000.
