Sheikh Yasir Ad Dawsary excused as Imam of Masjid Al Haram

MAKKAH: Sheikh Yasir Ad Dawsary has been excused from his position as Imam and Khateeb of Masjid Al Haram following the expiration of his 4-year contract with the General Presidency.

The Imam was appointed as a guest Imam for Taraweeh Prayers of Masjid Al Haram back in 2015, a position which was renewed annually until 2019 when was appointed permanent Imam by royal decree.

According to the bylaws regarding the appointments and dismissal of Imams approved in 2019 by the Council of Ministers, the imams of the Two Holy Mosques are to enter into a 4-year contract with the General Presidency for the Religious Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques and will be subjected to renewal after the end of their tenures.

Sheikh Yasir Ad Dawsary and atleast two other Imam’s contracts were not renewed after they expired following the end of their 4 year tenure which may be subject to renewal in the future, Inside the Haramain has learned

The General Presidency has neither confirmed nor denied these claims, however, it is pertinent to note the Presidency has not commented on the dismissal of Imams in the past.
